Will My Chin Implant Last Forever?

Posted July 01, 2021 in Chin Augmentation, Chin Implants

3 Minute Read:

Chin implant is one of the most commonly performed facial implant procedures. For individuals who lack a defined chin, an implant procedure can help create a well-defined jawline structure while maintaining their natural beauty.

It is a great and effective way of adding strength to a weak or recessed chin for improved facial harmony.

What Is Chin Augmentation With Implants?

Chin augmentation is a surgical procedure that uses a solid silicone implant to add volume and projection to the chin. Essentially, it manipulates and adds shape to the facial bone structure.

The results look and feel similar to the natural chin bone.

Are Chin Implants Permanent?

While the results of a chin implant are intended to be permanent and, in most cases, never require further surgery, there is a possibility that they could start to look out of harmony over time with age-related bone mass loss, requiring maintenance.

Can My Chin Implants Be Removed?

Chin implants can be removed and replaced or altered with additional improvements if you desire a different look. Many reasons could lead to chin implant removal or revision.

Why Would I Choose to Revise My Chin Implant?

A common reason is personal dissatisfaction with the aesthetics of the implant. The chin implant can be too small, excessively large, or ill-fitting for your particular needs.

Sometimes, the implant can settle a bit high or low or shift, leading to an asymmetrical or uneven chin. Such a problem can be corrected by going back into the operating room to tweak the implant into the correct position.

Other causes of chin implant removal include infection, nerve compression, and bone reabsorption. Having the implant removed and a proper revision surgery performed can provide individuals with the strong, firm, and balanced jawline they have always desired.

Should I Combine My Chin Surgery With Facial Enhancement Surgeries?

A chin implant surgery procedure can be performed alongside other procedures, such as facelift surgery, neck lift surgery, or rhinoplasty (nose surgery). Patients are advised to ensure the procedure is performed by a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon with experience in facial surgery rejuvenation procedures for a successful outcome.

Dr. Koch will review your concerns during your consultation and recommend the best treatment plan to create a more balanced facial aesthetic.

Are There Non-surgical Options for Chin Augmentation?

Non-surgical injectable fillers, like hyaluronic acid fillers or RADIESSE®, can add definition and projection to the chin. While these injectable treatments are very customizable, they do not last nearly as long as chin implants do.

However, injectable fillers may be a good way to “try out” chin augmentation if you are on the fence about implants. Depending on the type of filler, results typically last between six and 18 months.
