Tummy Tuck in Buffalo, NY

Whether from age, lifestyle (such as poor diet), or life events (including pregnancy and childbirth or weight loss), many men and women develop sagging skin and/or excess fat in their bellies. This can be frustrating and embarrassing for people, even causing them to cover their midsections with baggy clothing or keeping them from participating in fun activities, like beach or pool days with friends.

Luckily, tummy tuck surgery (abdominoplasty) is a safe and effective plastic surgery procedure that can improve the appearance of the midsection by eliminating excess skin while also tightening the underlying abdominal muscles.

Dr. Koch combines tummy tuck surgery with liposuction (a procedure called lipoabdominoplasty) to eliminate stubborn fat deposits and improve contouring. Desired by men and women of all ages, this procedure is effective in producing more slender and toned abdominal contours.

What Are the Benefits of Tummy Tuck Surgery?

Like many cosmetic procedures, one of the greatest benefits of undergoing tummy tuck surgery is that your improvement is both physical and psychological. While you will gain a more aesthetically pleasing appearance, you will also find yourself with higher self-esteem in the way you look.

Here are some specific benefits from having a tummy tuck:

Skin

The skin loses elasticity over time, which causes it to become saggy. Even if you’ve managed to lose weight, chances are you still have loose, hanging skin around your midsection. A tummy tuck removes excess skin and tightens the remaining skin to improve the contours of the stomach area. Along with a more defined and toned midsection, your skin will be smoother than ever before.

Fat

Stubborn fat can be one of the most frustrating things to deal with. This kind of subcutaneous fat just won’t go away, no matter how healthy your diet is or how much you work out, and it can accumulate in the most displeasing areas, such as around your waist. However, the liposuction aspect of lipoabdominoplasty eliminates these unwanted fat deposits to create leaner and more sculpted contours. After your tummy tuck, you will be able to say goodbye to those “love handles” and other areas of stubborn fat.

Stretch Marks

After pregnancy, unsightly stretch marks often remain. Many women feel self-conscious about these marks. A tummy tuck permanently eliminates stretch marks along with the skin removed from the lower abdomen. After your procedure, you will be left with smooth and beautiful skin.

Muscles

Pregnancy and weight gain can leave the abdominal muscles permanently stretched and damaged. During a tummy tuck, the muscles are tightened and held in place with internal sutures to reveal a flatter, more toned midsection.

Physique

A flat, defined stomach is seen as the pinnacle of physical fitness and attractiveness in our society. With a tummy tuck, your physique will be noticeably more appealing to others. Whether a dress, t-shirt, or bikini bathing suit, you will better be able to wear the clothing you’ve always wanted and know that you’re turning heads for all the right reasons.

Confidence

An unattractive abdominal area can be embarrassing and can negatively affect your self-confidence. The results of a tummy tuck can improve the way you view yourself and how you project yourself to others. With successful surgery, recovery and maintenance, you can hopefully feel comfortable in your own skin.

Lipoabdominoplasty

What Is Lipoabdominoplasty?

Dr. Koch uses an approach to correcting sagging skin and excess fat in the midsection that is different from the classic abdominoplasty, which only focuses on tightening muscles and removing excess abdominal skin. Lipoabdominoplasty is performed on an outpatient basis with general anesthesia, so you can feel comfortable knowing that you will not experience any pain or discomfort during your procedure. Unlike traditional abdominoplasty, Dr. Koch’s lipoabdominoplasty technique involves using liposuction to better enhance your body contouring results.

How Is Lipoabdominoplasty Performed?

A horizontal incision is made just above the pubic region. This incision may extend from one hip to the other. The length of the incision depends on the extent of correction and the amount of skin needing to be removed. If necessary, a second incision may be used to remove loose skin from around the navel. Extensive liposuction is performed through the incisions to remove excess fat. For liposuction, a cannula (a thin tube) is used to loosen up pockets of fat, and then this fat is vacuumed out of the body. After the liposuction portion of the procedure, the underlying abdominal muscles are pulled tight and stitched together with internal sutures before the remaining skin is pulled downward. Excess skin is trimmed before the incisions are closed. Your stretch marks will be gone permanently and you will be left with a more toned and defined midsection, along with smoother and more attractive skin.

Before & After

What Can I Expect for My Tummy Tuck Recovery?

Although it typically takes about 3 to 4 weeks to recover from a tummy tuck, many patients feel good enough to return to work after about 10 to 14 days with limitations.

Immediately After

Immediately After

You will have bruising and swelling in the surgical area after your procedure. These side effects may last anywhere from a week to several weeks. Bandages will be placed over the incisions, and a compression garment will be placed around the abdomen. You will likely have some tenderness and discomfort in the area. Medication can be taken to alleviate any pain you may experience; however, if pain persists or increases, it is important that you contact Dr. Koch immediately. During your recovery, you need to allow your body the rest it needs to properly heal. This means refraining from any strenuous activities until you are cleared by Dr. Koch to return to normal activities.

2 Weeks After

2 Weeks After

By this time in the recovery process, most patients feel good enough to return to work and resume their normal routine, although physical activity and exercise should be avoided. You want to make sure that you do not put any unneeded stress or pressure on your healing incisions. Additionally, it is important that you drink plenty of water and maintain a healthy diet.

4 Weeks After

4 Weeks After

As your results become more apparent, light exercise is allowed. Exercise, like slow walks, helps to circulate the blood in your body, which, in turn, helps speed up the recovery process. It is important to note that strenuous physical activity should still be avoided for at least two more weeks.

3 to 6 Months After

3 to 6 Months After

After several months, your final results should be apparent and you will be able to fully engage in your normal, daily activities. You will likely be satisfied by the appearance of your midsection. Your results will be long lasting, especially if you maintain a healthy lifestyle, including a good diet and regular exercise.
