How Can I Plump My Lips?

Posted June 29, 2020 in Lip Injections

2 Minute Read:

The world’s most beautiful people are often described as having full, luscious lips. Unfortunately, this isn’t a gift everyone is born with. Some people naturally have thin lips while others experience a thinning of their lips as they age. Luckily, advancements in plastic surgery have made getting plump lips easy for anyone. Keep reading for a complete breakdown of all your options when it comes to getting plump lips.

There are two main options for getting fuller lips: temporary lip fillers or a permanent lip implant. The obvious distinction between the two is how long they last.

What Are Temporary Lip Fillers?

Lip fillers inject a substance into the lips for a plumping effect that typically lasts between six months and one year (although some types of fillers may remain longer) and is considered a semi-permanent procedure. The most common types of lip fillers include VOLLURE, VOLBELLA, JUVÉDERM® and Restylane®.

The procedure for lip fillers is quick, with minimal discomfort. A few injections of the filler are placed directly into the upper and lower lip for a precise shape and fill. Usually, people continue with their day immediately after the appointment. Some people will experience bruising and swelling, but this will subside within a few days.

Patients typically start with a small amount of lip filler and can choose to increase the amounts at follow-up appointments. Many people select lip fillers as it feels risk-free, and you are not tied to the results. You can always have the filler removed if you don’t like the added plumpness, and results will fade with time.

What Are Permanent Lip Implants?

The other option for plumper, fuller lips, is a permanent lip implant. Some patients will test out lip fillers before choosing to go the permanent route. You will need to consult with your plastic surgeon to see what size and type of lip implant are best. There are many synthetic and natural options on the market, including Permalip and acellular dermal matrix.

Lip implants are inserted through small incisions on the corner of your mouth. A lip implant procedure is quick, taking about 30 minutes, and patients can return home the same day.

Which Type of Lip Augmentation Is Right For Me?

It can be challenging to know which procedure is right for you. Lip implants have a higher upfront cost because they are a more permanent decision. However, if you’re more comfortable with repeated lip filler injections, these can also become a permanent solution; they just require regular maintenance and follow-up appointments.

Fuller, natural-looking lips are a possibility with both of these options. To find out more, schedule a consultation, and learn which technique is most appropriate for your aesthetic goals.
