Are Plastic Surgery Procedures for Men?

Posted May 29, 2020 in Male Plastic Surgery

When many people think of plastic surgery, they only consider procedures like breast augmentation, facelift surgery, or BOTOX® Cosmetic injections for women of the Hollywood elite. However, plastic surgery offers far more than that, and cosmetic enhancement can help men achieve the masculine and toned body contours they’ve dreamed of.

While men may not be as vocal about their physical appearance, they too have insecurities and problem areas they want to be addressed. And, now, more men are considering plastic surgery to target those trouble spots.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 13 percent of all plastic surgery procedures in 2017 were performed on men. Some of the most prominent included liposuction, rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, and breast reduction.

How Is Liposuction for Men Performed?

Men seek out liposuction for the same reasons as most women: to obtain a more desirable, sleek body contours. Common areas of liposuction procedures for men include the hips (the dreaded love handles), abdomen (the unwanted beer belly), and male breasts (the confidence-damaging man boobs).

Liposuction trims the body contours by suctioning away excess fat cells through small incisions. These incisions are usually hidden in skin folds and heal within weeks.

What Does Rhinoplasty for Men Include?

Known informally as a nose job, rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that changes the shape and size of the nose. Men who choose to undergo rhinoplasty often do so for medical reasons or to correct undesirable aesthetics as the result of a birth defect or a trauma. This surgery is generally performed as an outpatient procedure, and most men can return home the same day.

How Does Eyelid Surgery Benefit Men?

The eyes are the windows to the soul, and the skin around the eyes weakens just as fast in men as it does in women. Heavy, drooping upper eyelids or puffy bags beneath the eyes create a fatigued and prematurely aged appearance, which is not only an annoyance but a hindrance for men looking to re-enter the job market or rejoin the dating scene.

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) targets the excess skin and fat on the upper and lower eyelids to help improve the youthfulness of a man’s stunning gaze.

How Can You Treat Gynecomastia With Plastic Surgery?

Gynecomastia is the technical term for the overdevelopment of male breast tissue (man boobs).

Male breast reduction surgery is the best (and most effective) way to treat gynecomastia. This can be achieved through liposuction (for excess fat) or excision methods (for excess breast tissue and loose skin). With the excision technique, a small incision is made around the nipple so that excess fat, tissue, and skin can be removed. The result is a firmer and flatter chest.

Am I a Good Candidate for Cosmetic Procedures?

If you are in generally good shape with limited health issues, you may be a good candidate for male plastic surgery.
