When Should I Consider a Breast Lift?

Posted February 19, 2016 in Breast Augmentation, Breast Lift

The demand for more youthful breasts has increased 75 percent since the year 2000, with 92,724 breast lift procedures performed in 2014 alone. The numbers continue to climb as new and improved surgical techniques more than meet the aesthetic desires of patients. So many women experience accelerated aging in the breast area due to weight fluctuations, pregnancy, breastfeeding, genetics, and poor skin elasticity. Even though the breast lift procedure will provide improvement no matter when you get it, there are certain factors to consider before your surgery that may make a difference when final results are apparent.

Do you have breast sagging?

If you have some extent of volume loss, sagging, or asymmetry in the breasts, the breast lift procedure is ideal. The procedure can correct mild to severe sagging by moving the nipple higher up on the chest and by removing any excess skin. It can also make the areola smaller if that is what you desire. Many patients get a breast lift along with a breast augmentation if they also want to increase the size of their breasts while they improve their breast shape and youthfulness.

Are you finished having children?

If you plan to have children after you get a breast lift, nothing should stop you from doing so. However, you should note that your breasts are guaranteed to change as a result of pregnancy even if you choose not to breastfeed. The breast position can change, they can become uneven, and they will no doubt lose the youthful shape you are trying to restore. Since the likelihood that pregnancy will undo the results of a breast lift is nearly 100 percent, it is best to wait until you are finished having children before undergoing the procedure.

Are you in good health?

Patients who experience the best results with a breast lift are in good physical and mental health and do not smoke. A healthy person will heal more quickly, and the results from the procedure will potentially last longer as the person maintains their good lifestyle habits.

Does your breast appearance significantly impact your quality of life?

The decision to undergo the breast lift procedure is a very personal one, and no other person should be your motivation for the procedure. Each prospective patient must weigh the pros and cons, including cost and recovery time, along with their own desires. If your breast appearance significantly impacts your confidence and quality of life, this procedure will be more than worth your investment.
