The laser beam targets the pigment in the hair follicle. The hair follicle acts as a conduit, conducting the laser energy (heat) to the hair bulb. The blood vessels located in the hair bulb are destroyed. Without the blood supply there is no nutrients supplied to the hair follicle and hair growth is no longer possible. Three Stages of Hair Growth
- Anagen phase is the active hair growth phase. During this phase, the hair follicle is directly connected to the blood vessels. It is ONLY during this stage that we can permanently destroy the hair follicle.
- Catagen phase is the dormant phase. The hair is no longer in contact with its blood supply. The hair can be destroyed during this phase but not permanently. The hair will grow back in time.
- Telogen phase is the shedding phase. During this stage the hair is totally dormant. The hair is falling out but can't be destroyed. Within an area not all hair follicles are in the same hair growth cycle at the same time. Therefore only the hairs in the Anagen phase of the growth cycle are destroyed.
